Marriage Advice To You All ...

1. Choose to love each other even in those moments when you struggle to like each other. Love is a commitment, not a feeling.

2. Always answer the phone when your husband/wife is calling and when possible, try to keep your phone off/on silent when you’re together with your spouse.

3. Make time together a priority. Budget for a consistent date night. Time is the “currency of relationships” so consistently invest time into your marriage.

4. Surround yourself with friends who will strengthen your marriage and remove yourself from people who may tempt you to compromise your character.

5. Make laughter the soundtrack of your marriage. Share moments of joy, and even in the hard times, find reasons to laugh.

6. In every argument, remember that there won’t be a “winner” and a “loser.” You are partners in everything so you’ll either win together or lose together. Work together to find a solution.

7. Remember that a strong marriage rarely has two strong people at the same time. It’s usually a husband and wife taking turns being strong for each other in the moments when the other feels weak.

8. Prioritize what happens in the bedroom. It takes more than sex to build a strong marriage, but it’s nearly impossible to build a strong marriage without it.

9. Remember that marriage isn’t 50-50, divorce is 50-50. Marriage has to be 100-100. It’s not splitting everything in half, but both partners giving everything they’ve got.

10. Give your best to each other, not your leftovers after you’ve given your best to everyone else.

11. Learn from other people, but don’t feel the need to compare your life or your marriage to anyone else’s. Allah's plan for your life is masterfully unique.

12. Don’t put your marriage on hold while you’re raising your kids or else you’ll end up with an empty nest and an empty marriage.

13. Never keep secrets from each other. Secrecy is the enemy of intimacy.

14. Never lie to each other. Lies break trust and trust is the foundation of a strong marriage.

15. When you’ve made a mistake, admit it and humbly seek forgiveness. You should be quick to say, “I was wrong. I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”

16. When your husband/wife breaks your trust, give them your forgiveness instantly which will promote healing and create the opportunity for trust to be rebuilt. You should be quick to say, “I love you. I forgive you. Let’s move forward.”

17. Be patient with each other. Your spouse is always more important that your schedule.

18. Model the kind of marriage that will make your sons want to grow up to be good husbands and your daughters want to grow up to be good wives.

19. Be your spouse’s biggest encourager, not his/her biggest critic. Be the one who wipes away their tears, not the one who causes them.

20. Never talk badly about your spouse to other people or vent about them online. Protect your spouse at all times and in all places.

21. Pray together. Every marriage is stronger with Allah in the middle of it.

22. Never consider divorce as an option. Remember that a “perfect marriage” is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on each other!

I Am Pleased With Allāh As My Lord

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : ‏من قال رضيت بالله ربا و بالإسلام دينا و بمحمد رسولا و جبت له الجنة.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Whoever says;
‘Raḍeetu Billaahi Rabban Wa Bil Islaami Deenan Wa Bi Muḥammadin Rasoolan’

(I am pleased with Allāh as the Lord and with Islām as religion and with Muḥammad as Messenger)

Paradise will be made obligatory for him.”

Expressing love for the Prophet ﷺ is not exemplified through Mawlid celebrations, rather, it manifests in faithfully adhering to His Sunnah and steering clear of innovations. Period.

“Know That Victory Comes with Patience, and Relief Comes with Hardship”

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

In this is evidence for the statement of the Prophet ﷺ:

“Know that victory comes with patience, and that relief comes with hardship.”

Whenever the hardship becomes more severe, and your attachment to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, becomes stronger, relief will come.

But if the hardship intensifies and you begin thinking, “Where should I go? To this person? To so-and-so? To so-and-so?” then you may be left to depend upon them.

As for when you turn in distress to Allah, then know that relief is near.

Many people today, when hardships become severe for them, say, “Where should I go?” So, for example, he goes to such-and-such a person asking him for assistance, or he goes to a particular hospital for treatment, or something similar.

But if he were to place his affair before Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and raise the matter to Him, Allah, the Most High, would make the affair easy for him.

This does not mean that a person should abandon taking the necessary means. Rather, he should take those means, but he must not believe that the means themselves are what remove his hardship. Instead, he should believe that if Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, does not facilitate them, then nothing will be achieved.

The Ten Days of Dhul-Ḥijjah

As for the recommendation of increasing in dhikr (remembrance of Allah) during them, then the statement of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, indicates this:

“And mention the Name of Allah on known days.” [Al-Ḥajj: 28]

For indeed, the “known days” are the days of the ten according to the majority of the scholars.

And in the Musnad of Imam Aḥmad, from Ibn ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said:

“There are no days greater with Allah, nor more beloved to Him for deeds to be performed in them, than these ten days. So increase in them in saying Lā ilāha illallāh, Allahu Akbar, and Alḥamdulillāh.”

Faith in the angels

وَنُؤْمِنُ بِالْكِرَامِ الْكَاتِبِينَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ جَعَلَهُمْ عَلَيْنَا حَافِظِينَ

We have faith in the noble recording angels, for Allah has appointed them over us as guardians.[110]

وَنُؤْمِنُ بِمَلَكِ الْمَوْتِ الْمُوَكَّلِ بِقَبْضِ أَرْوَاحِ الْعَالَمِينَ

We have faith in the angel of death charged with seizing the souls of those in the worlds.[111]
عَذَابُ الْقَبْرِ وَنَعِيمُهُ

Punishment in the grave and its blessings

وَبِعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ لِمَنْ كَانَ لَهُ أَهْلًا وَسُؤَالِ مُنْكَرٍ وَنَكِيرٍ فِي قَبْرِهِ عَنْ رَبِّهِ وَدِينِهِ وَنَبِيِّهِ عَلَى مَا جَاءَتْ بِهِ الْأَخْبَارُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَنِ الصَّحَابَةِ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ

We have faith in the punishment of the grave for those who deserve it and the questioning in the grave by the two angels, Munkar and Nakir, about one’s Lord, religion, and prophet, as has come in reports from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and from the companions, may Allah be pleased with them.[112]

وَالْقَبْرُ رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ أَوْ حُفْرَةٌ مِنْ حُفَرِ النِّيرَانِ

The grave is either one of the meadows of Paradise or one of the pits of Hellfire.[113]

[111] “The angel of death, who has been entrusted with you, will take you. Then to your Lord you will be returned.” (Su‌rat al-Sajdah 32:11)

[112] “When the deceased is buried in his grave, two black and blue angels come to him. One of them is called Munkar and the other is called Nakir. They will both say: What do you say about this man?” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi‌ 1071, Jayyid)

[113] “Verily, the grave is the first stage of the Hereafter. If one is saved from it, whatever comes after will be easier for him. If one is not saved from it, whatever comes after will be harder for him. I have never seen anything more frightening than the grave.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi‌ 2308, Hasan)

He answered: "By not completing his Rukū' and sajdah with perfection."
